Deutsche Telekom: Unlimited mobile data flat rate is available as a prepaid tariff

Deutsche Telekom is expanding its range of prepaid mobile tariffs and is introducing the possibility to book a full mobile data flat rate as a prepaid product for the first time. The Magenta Mobil Prepaid Max Flat tariff includes a telephone and SMS flat rate in all German networks as well as an unlimited mobile data flat rate. This tariff also includes the use of Telekom’s 5G network. The term of the tariff is four weeks, during which time the tariff costs 99.95 euros. This includes a one-time starting credit of 100 euros.

Telekom has been offering an unlimited mobile data flat rate since spring 2018. The Magenta Mobil XL tariff currently costs 85 euros per month and has a minimum contract term of two years. The significantly more expensive prepaid tariff has the advantage that it can only be booked for four weeks. This leads to a higher price and the shortened term of four weeks makes the long-term booking even more expensive. Because the tariff would not have to be booked 12 times, but 13 times to cover the entire year.

The unrestricted data volume included was increased in the four other Magenta Mobil prepaid tariffs. 5G use is possible for a surcharge and the contingent of free minutes has been increased in two prepaid tariffs. The prices remain unchanged.

Tariffs with free units for telephone calls

Magenta Mobil Prepaid M continues to cost 9.95 euros for four weeks. There is 2 GB unthrottled data volume, previously it was 1.5 GB. Customers can use the maximum LTE speed, which is specified with 300 MBit / s in the download and 50 MBit / s in the upload. If the data volume is used up, the speed is limited to 32 kbps in the download and 16 kbps in the upload. Internet use is no longer meaningful. The same speeds also apply to the other tariffs.

The M tariff will in future include 200 free units for telephony in all German networks. So far there have been 100 free units. There is also a telephone and SMS flat rate available within the Telekom mobile network. After the inclusive units have been used up, each telephone minute and SMS costs 9 cents each.

In the Magenta Mobil Prepaid L tariff, the quota of free units for telephone calls increases from 200 to 300. Here too there is a flat rate for telephone and SMS within the Telekom mobile network. After the free units have been used, the telephone minute also costs 9 cents each; just like sending SMS. The unrestricted data volume was increased from 2 GB to 3 GB. With a term of four weeks, the tariff continues to cost 14.95 euros.

Tariff with telephone and SMS flat rate

Magenta Mobil Prepaid XL again includes a telephone and SMS flat rate in all German networks. The unrestricted data flat rate was increased from 3 GB to 5 GB. With a term of four weeks, this continues to cost 24.95 euros. In the M, L and XL tariffs, access to the 5G network can be booked for four weeks at a price of 3 euros. The option can be tested free of charge for twelve weeks. With all tariffs there is a starting credit in the amount of the first payment.

There is no change to the Magenta Mobil Prepaid S tariff, which costs 2.95 euros for four weeks. There is a telephone and SMS flat rate for this in the Telekom mobile network. Everything else has to be paid for. A so-called day flat rate can be booked for mobile data use. For an additional 1.49 euros, there is a data volume of 50 MByte for 24 hours, which is not exactly a lot. Each minute of telephone and SMS to other networks costs 9 cents each. 5G usage is not provided here. The starting credit is a one-off payment of 10 euros, which is higher than the basic price.

All tariffs can be used free of charge with all functions through EU roaming in other EU countries including Switzerland. In addition, access to the Telekom WLAN hotspot network is available free of charge for all tariffs from Magenta Mobil M. If you book the tariffs and use the Magenta app from Telekom, you will receive 500 MB of data volume per month, the Telekom promises. Anyone who has a landline connection at Telekom in parallel with the Magenta Mobile tariffs will receive the Magenta One benefit and will receive 1 GB of additional unrestricted data volume in addition to the smartphone tariff. All new prepaid tariffs still do not support VoLTE.
