Railway train drivers’ strike has begun: thousands of travelers affected

The strike at Deutsche Bahn is expected to last until Friday afternoon. The union is calling for a reduction in working hours in the long-simmering wage dispute.
Thousands of commuters and travelers have also been in Hesse since Thursday morning Train drivers’ strike affected. The strike in long-distance and regional transport began at 2 a.m. in the collective bargaining dispute between the German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) and Deutsche Bahn, as a railway spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday morning. The strike is scheduled to last until Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. According to the railway’s announcement, there will be “a basic offer” for customers during this time. Subways, trams and buses are not affected by the strike, but the S-Bahn trains belonging to the Bahn group are.
The union does not want to announce further labor disputes around two days in advance, as has been the case previously. The crux of the collective bargaining dispute, which has been simmering for months, is the GDL’s demand to reduce the weekly working hours for shift workers from 38 to 35 hours without financial losses.
