Deutsche Bahn wants to renovate almost a dozen routes in Lower Saxony by 2030. This also includes the controversial general renovation of the Hamburg-Hannover route. A date has not yet been set.
Nationwide, 40 important routes are to be renovated, eleven of these routes run through Lower Saxony. This was presented on Friday in Frankfurt at the so-called rail summit. Work on the Hamburg-Hannover line was previously scheduled for 2026, but Lower Saxony’s Economics Minister Olaf Lies (SPD) recently suggested postponing the general renovation until 2029. The reason for this is the dispute over the route of the planned expansion or new construction of the important ICE route. Lies would like to use the general renovation to carry out initial work for the later expansion or new building. But for this to happen, the route must be determined.
