For connections in space Baden-Wurttemberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and in other federal states, the Deutsche Bahn issued a current announcement. The company states:
“Due to construction work between Karlsruhe and Rastatt, there will be disruptions to Deutsche Bahn’s long-distance services all day on September 9, 2024. Individual trains will be cancelled between Karlsruhe and Basel in both directions.”

ICE trains from Cologne via Mainz and Mannheim with destination Basel SBB end in Karlsruhe
ICE trains from Basel SBB via Mannheim and Mainz to Cologne start in Karlsruhe
We recommend the following travel alternatives: From Karlsruhe towards Basel, please take the trains to Interlaken and Chur and Basel SBB. From Basel towards Karlsruhe, take the trains to Hamburg and Berlin.

How punctual is Deutsche Bahn?
Only around 64 percent of all long-distance trains operated by Deutsche Bahn were on time in 2023 (65.2% in 2022), as shown by the DB Group’s own punctuality figures. According to these figures, 36 percent arrived at their destination station at least six minutes late. DB Regio trains are on average much more punctual. According to Deutsche Bahn, the punctuality of trains here in the first quarter of 2023 was 92 to 93 percent. Trains that were completely canceled are not included in these statistics. But why is Deutsche Bahn so unpunctual? For 2023, the railway company cited numerous construction sites and necessary renovations on and along rail lines as the causes of train delays; malfunctions in vehicles as well as in control and safety technology and in the Deutsche Bahn network are also common reasons for unpunctuality.
