Comfortably and quickly from the station forecourt to the platforms: Together with the city of Stuttgart, Deutsche Bahn (DB) is enabling more accessibility at Stuttgart Central Station and is using a free shuttle service for this purpose.

The shuttle vehicle commutes daily between platform 16 and the station forecourt between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., making it easier for travelers who need assistance to cross the pedestrian walkway. There will be a stop with a bench on both sides in the future. The new vehicle can be used spontaneously and will supplement the offer for barrier-free travel from the mobility service center of Deutsche Bahn. In July, more than 10,000 travelers used the new offer in an initial test phase.

Today Thorsten Krenz, Group Representative of DB for the State of Baden-Württemberg, Nikolaus Hebding, Head of Station Management Stuttgart, Dr. Frank Nopper, Lord Mayor of the state capital Stuttgart, and Dr. Alexandra Sußmann, Mayor for Social Affairs and Social Integration of the state capital Stuttgart, jointly presented the new shuttle service at Stuttgart Central Station.

Thorsten Krenz, DB Group Representative for the state of Baden-Württemberg: “A barrier-free and comfortable way to the train – that’s important to us! In cooperation with the state capital, we were able to create a new service that makes the platforms at Stuttgart Central Station more accessible.”

dr Frank Nopper, Lord Mayor of the state capital Stuttgart: “Following advances from the municipal council and the population, there is now a permanent offer in the form of a permanent shuttle loop in addition to the on-demand offer, especially for older people, for families with children and for people who have a lot luggage are loaded.”

Nikolaus Hebding, Head of Stuttgart Station Management: “The new vehicle transports those travelers who need assistance on their way to and from the platforms on an ad hoc basis. I am pleased that we can thus supplement the offer of the mobility service center.”

dr Alexandra Sußmann, Mayor for Social Affairs and Social Integration of the state capital Stuttgart: “Travelling with DB to and from Stuttgart is becoming easier and easier again with the shuttle service.”

Environmentally friendly vehicles ensure comfort and safety

The environmentally friendly e-mobiles are equipped with seat belts and can transport up to five people at the same time. They drive at a maximum speed of 15 km/h and thus ensure a safe journey between the pedestrians.

The shuttle’s service staff is also proactive in reaching out to travelers who need assistance. The target group of the new offer should primarily be passengers with restricted mobility, the elderly and passengers with children and heavy luggage.

DB asks travelers with restricted mobility who can plan their trip up to one working day in advance to continue to contact the DB Mobility Service Center in advance. It helps with the planning of the trip and drives passengers with restricted mobility directly to the train.
