Berlin. Due to weather-related disruptions, there were severe disruptions in long-distance Deutsche Bahn traffic in large parts of northern Germany on Friday evening. Several places are expected to be inaccessible by long-distance transport until the early hours of the morning, including Bremen, Kiel, Lübeck and Westerland, said Deutsche Bahn. When searching for specific travel connections, turnout faults due to snow and ice in the Hanover and Hamburg area are indicated.
Standstill between Hamburg, Bremen and Hanover
Long-distance traffic had to be completely stopped on several routes: Hanover-Bremen, Hamburg-Bremen and Hamburg-Hanover. Shortly before midnight it was said that this disruption had ended and that long-distance traffic would be possible again without restrictions on Saturday.
According to the information, travel options by long-distance traffic between Hanover and Frankfurt / Main were severely limited on Friday evening.
The railway operator Metronom had previously announced that it would completely shut down its train services in Lower Saxony on Friday evening due to difficult winter weather conditions. “Freezing rain and snow paralyzed large parts of the railway lines in Lower Saxony. This also applies to metronom, enno and erixx ”, announced the company in Uelzen. In particular, frozen points, snow and icy overhead lines ensured that a safe journey was no longer possible.
Therefore, for the safety of the passengers, it was decided to gradually cease the train traffic on the routes of the metronom, enno and erixx. All train journeys end at their destination station. The train service of the metronom, enno and erixx will be completely stopped by 11 p.m., it said.
“For Saturday morning we continue to expect severe disruption on the lines if the switches cannot be repaired overnight,” the company announced on Friday evening. “If possible, please avoid driving tomorrow morning, or use the electronic timetable information for information.”
The rail operator also writes with a view to its passengers: “We are really sorry, we like to drive you – even in winter. But frozen points stop even the best train drivers. “
