There, ICE trains run three times a day without stopping in under four hours – up to half an hour faster than before.

It should also go faster on the routes, among other things Dusseldorf-Cologne-Munich, Hamburg-Frankfurt Airport and Berlin-Munich.

On a total of eight of the ten busiest domestic German routes, the additional ICE trains are to operate with fewer stops, the so-called Sprinters.

With the timetable change, journeys in the ICE and Intercity will cost an average of 1.9 percent more, as Deutsche Bahn announced in the fall.

Taking children under the age of 15 with you will be easier and in many cases probably also cheaper: In future, anyone can be the necessary accompanying person, not just parents or grandparents.

If you jump on a train on the spur of the moment, you have to be prepared for an important change: the conductor no longer sells paper tickets.

Spontaneous newcomers will in future have to book their tickets quickly on their laptop or mobile phone, leaving ten minutes for this.
