Genoa – After the controversy, the indignation and the accusations of sexism that rained down from several fronts, Rai has decided to suspend “Detto Fatto”, the Rai2 afternoon talk show, ended up in the blizzard for a tutorial on sexy shopping. “A very serious episode, which has nothing to do with the spirit of the Public Service and with the editorial line of this Rai”, commented Rai CEO Fabrizio Salini who, after having started an investigation to ascertain responsibility for what happened, therefore decided to suspend the broadcast, waiting, as Ansa reports, “that a program is studied that reflects an editorial line adequate to the message of the public service”.
At the center of the controversy was a tutorial on how to shop in a sexy way at the supermarket aired in talkshow conducted by Bianca Guaccero: the episode of Tuesday 24 November saw the dancer Emily Angelillo as the protagonist who, in black leather shorts and high heels, simulated a shopping spree at the supermarket suggesting how to move to look sensual between one purchase and another: ” help of the shopping cart I walk with my knee straight and I walk around for the aisles that become my stage “, explains Angelillo who in front of a high shelf invites” to raise the knee to give an intriguing touch “or even to” keep the legs closed so as not to make the situation more vulgar “in the event that you had to pick up a product from the ground however, recommending that you “get up by raising your butt a little.”
And so what, perhaps, it was meant to be nothing more than a sketch full of irony, turned into a very unedifying moment of television that sparked dissent from the public, accusing the program of depicting the image of women in stereotypes gender, nullifying years and years of struggle for women’s emancipation.
Images already questionable, mostly aired close to the International Day for the elimination of violence against women, which have triggered harsh reactions, not only from the public on the Net. “Perhaps a tutorial would be needed not on how to shop but on how to do public service without trampling on the value and history of Rai”, commented the undersecretary to the presidency of the Board with responsibility for Publishing Andrea Martella. “An ignoble thing. Unworthy of the #Rai #ServicePublic. But whoever thinks and creates these spaces has ever read the #ContrattoDiServizio? I help them: Rai is required to use “respectful, non-discriminatory and NOT STEREOTYPED towards women” languages and images (articles 9 and 25) ” added the Usigrai secretary, Vittorio Di Trapani, on Twitter. “Enough sexism and gender stereotypes on TV and especially on #rai which is public service”, thundered Valeria Fedeli, leader of the Pd group in the Rai Supervisory Commission. “How long will we have to continue to tell women in a fake, stereotypical way, with stiletto heels, sexy moves, always perfect, mermaids or witches? »Asked the Minister of Agriculture Teresa Bellanova. And again the honorable Laura Boldrini, according to whom «the worst sexism is broadcast on # Rai2. The public service broadcasts the tutorial for women on how to shop in a sexy way. Can the fee paid by citizens and townsfolk ever be used for this type of programming?

A real case, in short, on which Rai2 wants to see clearly: “It will be a serious commitment of the network to investigate the incident and the responsibilities, and ensure that this does not happen again in the future: it would be contrary to the spirit of the program and to the civil values of the presenter, the authors, and Rai2 “, the director of Rai2 Ludovico di Meo announced in a note, specifying that” Detto fatto is a transmission that has the sole aspiration, if possible, to entertain. The program yesterday ran into a very serious mistake, certainly not wanted, of which I first apologize to the viewers and viewers. Although it was not the intention validate negative female stereotypes – which everyone agrees in blaming and condemning – the ironic charge was overestimated in spite of a key that was clearly offensive ».
And to admit the mistake was also Bianca Guaccero who, via Instagram, published a long “mea culpa”, apologizing on behalf of the whole team for what she called a form of unsuccessful comedy: «I am a woman, a single mother, who fights every day for what she believes in … especially in defending the category I represent. the woman … I have always worked by proposing an image of myself very far from that of the object woman … trying to break down any wall of prejudice and machismo… but I am the host of a program, I take part of the responsibility for what happened. Apologizing to everyone, for the superficiality with which this situation was handled by all our team – commented the presenter – I am sure of the good faith of the author group that has been working for months, trying to pack, with great effort, a decent and cheerful program despite all the difficulties of the pandemic situation we are experiencing. The tutorial in question had to adhere to some comical and surreal tones, not to be taken seriously, but this time we got it wrong. Therefore I apologize on behalf of my entire team, with all those people who felt struck by this sad curtain. As I have always done in my life, I will make sure that this never happens again. “
