Not sure if the Pistons won a lot of games this season but two things seem pretty clear for 2023-24: 1) they will probably win more than last season and 2) we will have to click on the games because there is talent ( gross) on all floors. Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Jaden Ivey, Killian Hayes, Marvin Bagley, James Wiseman, Isaiah Stewart, Jalen Duren… it’s not an NBA franchise, it’s an ultra-select nursery, and let’s hope the new coach Monty Williams will do better than his predecessor Dwane Casey, in which case you might as well change jobs immediately. A season of transition and learning, one more, so let’s now see what we can learn from the reveal of the Detroit calendar!
# Plus long road-trip : 6 games (Kings, Blazers, Lakers, Clippers, Suns and Pacers) between February 7 and 22, but the All-Star Game in the middle to return to take advantage of the mif.
# Longest home session: 6 games between January 17 and 28 (Wolves, Bucks x2, Hornets, Wizards and Thunder) then another 6 games between March 7 and 17 (Nets, Mavs, Hornets, Raptors and Heat x2).
# National broadcast matches (TNT + ESPN + ABC): 4, like the Hornets, Rockets and Wizards. Only the Raptors do worse with 3.
# Number of games played back-to-back: 15
# Matches at French times for the Pistons: 9, pretty good!
# A few posters to remember: Joe Harris who will be fondly remembered by the Nets on December 23 and 26 and March 7, Victor Wembanyama who will check Killian and perhaps Malcolm on January 10 and March 14. The Pistons will be in Washington on January 15 for MLK Day, Ausar Thompson will meet his Rockets twin on January 1 and 12, while Monty Williams will try to play a dirty trick on the Suns on November 5 and February 14, with or without a candle. As for the In-Season Tournament, it will be December 4, 5, 7 and 9 against the Sixers, Cavs, Hawks and Pacers. Note that Detroit will face the Hornets and the Wizards during Rivals Week, January 24 and 26.
