Detroit Auto Show 2020 canceled: Exhibition halls become emergency hospitals

Practically every trade fair is currently a victim of the coronavirus. Now it has hit the “North American International Auto Show”, NAIAS for short, which was to take place in summer 2020 for the first time. However, since the coronavirus situation in the US is changing rapidly every day, the Federal Emergency Management Agency decided that the North American International Auto Show 2020 in Detroit must be put on hold, as the TCF Center will be used as a field hospital for at least six months selected for COVID-19 cases.

As one of the most important automobile events in the United States, the auto show is slated to resume in June 2021, instead of June 9-20 this year as it was originally.

The auto show was originally intended to host many outdoor events along the Riverfront and Hart Plaza, such as test drives, new technology demonstrations, and Motor Bella, a downtown festival of classic English and Italian cars. “The health and well-being of the citizens of Detroit and Michigan are of the utmost concern. The TCF Center is the ideal location for this important role at this critical and unprecedented time,” NAIAS Executive Director Rod Alberts said in a statement.

The new schedule for June 2021 can be found below, and all tickets purchased for this year’s canceled event will be refunded at full price.

– Motor Bella: Friday June 11th – Monday June 14th
– The Gallery: Monday June 14th
– Press Preview: Tuesday June 15 – Wednesday June 16
– AutoMobili-D Powered by PlanetM: Tuesday June 15th – Thursday June 17th
– Industry Preview: Wednesday June 16 – Thursday June 17
– Charity Preview: Friday June 18
– Public Show: Saturday June 19th – Saturday June 26th

According to state officials, Detroit has the largest number of positive cases in the state of Michigan at 1,377. There are also 4,650 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, along with 111 deaths.
