Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that the US arms sales to Taiwan are a clear violation of the “one China” principle and the three joint communiques between China and the US, especially the part of the communiqué signed by China and the US on August 17, 1982. The arms sale undermines China’s sovereignty, threatens peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region, and sends the wrong signal to separatist forces in Taiwan. “We express strong displeasure and are firmly against this,” said Wu Tsien.
“We call on the US to stop arms sales to Taiwan, fulfill its statement of non-support for ‘Taiwan independence’ and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.
