Dan Disch (b. 6. January 1959 in Jacksonville, Florida, USA)[1] is an American football coach. He is currently head coach of the Prague Lions in the European League of Football.[2]
Dan Disch graduated from Florida State University in 1981.[3]
He spent 22 years as a high school football coach in Jacksonville, Florida, including 16 years at Ed White High School.[2] There he won seven district and six conference championships with the team.[3]
In the 2004 season, Disch played college football for the first time and was the secondary coach of the Florida Gators. From 2005 he was a coach at Illinois, initially as a special teams and linebackers coach, and from July 2007 also as co-defensive coordinator.[4] In 2010 he was responsible for the inside linebackers.[1][5]
In 2011, Disch was hired by the University of Southern Mississippi (Southern Miss Golden Eagles) as defensive coordinator (DC) and secondary coach.[3] From 2012 to 2014, he held the same position at the University of North Carolina.[6]
In the 2015 season, Disch tried his hand at Europe for the first time. He was DC for the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in the German Football League.[1] After the season he acted as head coach, but for family reasons he returned to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at the beginning of 2016 and coached the defensive backs there for two years.[1][3]
In 2018, Disch became head coach of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes again.[1] After the Hurricanes’ bankruptcy, Disch moved to the Prague Lions in the ČLAF in 2019, where he served as defensive coordinator under head coach Zach Harrod.[7] With the Lions he won the Czech championship in 2019 and 2022. For the 2023 season, the Lions moved to the European League of Football (ELF), with Disch continuing to work as DC.[8] During the season, Harrod resigned due to internal disputes, and Disch took over the position of head coach on an interim basis. Dan Disch has been confirmed as Prague’s head coach for the 2024 season.[2]
