Deteriorating River Situation in Eure-et-Loir Department: New Measures Taken to Address Water Crisis

While the situation of the rivers is deteriorating in the department, as evidenced by the latest map updated by the prefecture of Eure-et-Loir, where almost the entire department has been placed in a crisis situation, the services of the State took new measures, this Thursday, July 20.

Some boreholes are “in a critical situation, either already stopped or close to being”, indicates the prefecture in a press release.

“More particularly the drilling of Bichot wood, which supplies around ten municipalities in the Chartres conurbation.”

Drought in Eure-et-Loir: almost the entire department in a crisis situation

This borehole, located in Voise, “could, in a few days, be unusable”, further specifies the prefecture.

New restrictive measures, taken in concert with the Chamber of Agriculture of Eure-et-Loir and the agglomeration of Chartres Métropole will therefore come into force, from tomorrow, Friday July 21:

For industrialists : “A reduction in withdrawals by companies located within a perimeter of 6 km around the drilling of Bichot wood (Voise) will be undertaken in order to limit water needs”, indicates the prefecture.
For farmers : “Irrigation is prohibited from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the specific Francourville / Prunay-le-Gillon sector. In addition, for farmers located outside the Francourville / Prunay-le-Gillon sector but less than 6km from the Bois Bichot borehole (Voise), the ban will be from 11 am to 5 pm.”
For individuals and communities : “All the municipalities near the sector being classified as in crisis, it is notably forbidden to water lawns and flower beds, to fill private swimming pools of more than 1m3, to wash one’s vehicle at home, to water the sports fields and to water the vegetable gardens from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Water reserves: strong deficits are more localized than in summer 2022

The prefect of Eure-et-Loir finally insists by recalling “the importance, for all, of respecting these measures in order to collectively guarantee the best preservation of our resources.”
