Washington: The US and the European Union have imposed sanctions on Russia. Russia’s opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been poisoned and unjustly imprisoned. Russia’s Vladimir Putin’s main rival, Navalny, has been jailed in protest. Navalny, who was attacked by gas last August, was jailed in January after returning home after months of treatment in Germany.
The U.S. sanctions are against 14 industries that produce biological and chemical products, as well as some prominent officials. The names of the officials have not been released. Russia’s attempts to leak U.S. documents have also been blocked. The European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions on Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Russian Federation’s inquiry committee, Igor Krasnov, prosecutor general, Viktor Solatov, head of the National Guard, and Alexander Kalashnikov, head of the Federal Prison Service.
