Detention Center Discloses Nigerian Man’s Use of Street Papers to Smuggle Drugs in Shoes; Correctional Services Department Stays Silent

A 46-year-old Nigerian man who was remanded for possession of dangerous drugs was found to have a small amount of suspected drugs hidden in his shoes by the Correctional Services Department when he was sent back to the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center after the hearing.

According to sources, the man held a temporary identity certificate commonly known as “street permit”. He was taken to the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on April 6 for trial. After interrogation, the man was sent back to the Lai Chi Kok Reception Center. During the entry search, officers of the Correctional Services Department found a small amount of suspected drugs hidden in his shoes. The Correctional Services Department referred the incident to the Police for further investigation.

When asked whether the Correctional Services Department knew the source of the drug of the person in custody and whether the case involved human error by correctional officers, the Correctional Services Department replied to “Yahoo News” that since the incident had been handed over to the police for follow-up, the department would not Will make any further comments.
