Windows Central have now obtained what are supposed to be internal prototype images of an upcoming new version of Explorer in Windows 11.
The pictures shows a new modern design with a redesigned header that has a file directory, a search field and a home button. Today’s header buttons for functions such as “Copy” and “Paste” have instead been moved to the field below the header.
The Explorer home page should also get a visual flow at the top for recommended files and more integrations with Microsoft 365 and OneDrive. Among other things, it will be possible to see things such as email threads and new comments and others the activity linked to shared files.
Microsoft is also said to be working on a new image viewer in Explorer where users can hover over an image to see an enlarged preview of it. There is also information about a new function for tagging files with, for example, keywords and colors.
According to information to Windows Central, Microsoft is working to release the new Explorer before the end of 2023.
