Details of the speedboat explosion that killed North Sulawesi Governor Benny Laos

Speedboat group of North Maluku governor candidate pair number 4, Benny Laos exploded and caught fire on Saturday (12/10).

The incident happened to the Benny Laos-Sabrin Sehe group at Bobong regional port, Bobong Village, Taliabu Island Regency.

Taliabu Island Police Chief AKBP Totok Handoyo said the group was actually going to Kawalo Village, Taliabu West District for an operation. However, before he had time to leave the port, the speedboat suddenly exploded and caught fire.

Deputy Governor Benny Laos dies

North Maluku Governor Benny Laos, candidate number 4, has died. This was given by the Chief of Ops Basarnas Ternate Bram.

Meanwhile, Totok confirmed that Benny had died after receiving intensive care at the hospital.

“He was confirmed dead, the hospital told me at 17.20 WIT,” Totok said CNNDonesia.com.

Before that, Totok said Benny was in the hospital with a broken leg and burns. He also received a heart pump procedure.

Explodes when full of fuel and engine running

The Bela 72 speedboat exploded and caught fire reportedly while refueling, while the ship’s engine was running.

Totok explained that before the event, Taliabu Island Deputy Police Chief, Police Commissioner Sirajudin, together with Chief Dokkes, stopped the speed boat to investigate the activities of the candidate couples. They reminded us to be careful as refueling is done with the boat’s engine, electric stove, AC and speedboat generator on.

After about five minutes the Deputy Chief of Police and Kasie Dokkes left, followed by an explosion of flames.

Six people died

So far, six people have been reported dead as a result of the speedboat explosion. The six victims were Benny Laos, North Maluku DPRD member Ester Tantri, North Maluku PPP DPW Mubin A. Wahid, Sula Islands Police member Bripka Hamdani Buamonabot (Benny Laos’ assistant), and a speedboat operator .

Meanwhile, 28 other passengers are still being treated in hospital.

There were 34 people on the ship

Taliabu Island Police Chief AKBP Totok Handoyo said that the speedboat was carrying 34 people (previously information was received from the Ternate SAR Office of 40 people).
