Details of day-one patch Star Wars: Squadrons announced and EA highlights progression system

Star Wars: Squadrons will be released late next week, October 2 to be precise. If you receive the game on Friday, you will first have to download a day-one patch before you can actually get started with it. The details of this update are now known.

The day-one patch of Star Wars: Squadrons weighs in at just under 2GB and brings all kinds of welcome tweaks and fixes. This improves the AI, as well as the visual quality for when you play the game with PlayStation VR. Support for HOTAS controls is also being added to the PS4 version. Developer EA Motive previously made the HOTAS support for the console versions known, so you can also play the game with a flight stick.

Below you can see the full patch notes of the day-one update for Star Wars: Squadrons. With a few days to go until the release, it is not excluded that an extra update will be released before the game is released.

  • Difficulty adjustments across all difficulty levels
  • Improved AI behavior in Story Mode and Fleet Battles vs AI
  • Fixed issues where some Story Mode Medals were unobtainable
  • Fixed issues with Request Resupply being unreliable in Story Mode
  • Improvements to cinematics, animations, and character interactions
  • Improved visual quality on PlayStation VR
  • Audio mix improvements
  • Added support for HOTAS controls
  • Several performance and stability improvements

Furthermore, EA also has more information announced about the Star Wars: Squadrons progression system. The system mainly revolves around Levels, Operations and Challenges. Levels form the regular ranking system. By playing the game you earn XP, which also increases your Level. Higher levels earn Requisition points. You can spend these points on new components for your ship, which will make it stronger.

Operations are eight-week cycles, and each Operation brings its own set of unique cosmetic rewards. These rewards can only be obtained by completing the Challenges of that Operation. In addition to these Operation Challenges, you can also complete Daily Challenges, which also entitle you to special rewards. During an Operations you also work on your specific Fleet Battles rank in the competitive Fleet Battles. This rank is reset when a new Operation starts.
