Details of 21 People Suspected of Mysterious Hepatitis in DKI: 14 Children, 7 Adults

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government recorded 21 people suspected of being infected mysterious acute hepatitis. There were 14 patients who were children under 16 years of age.

“Of the 21 cases, 14 people including three who died were less than 16 years old,” said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria to reporters, Thursday (12/5/2022).

Meanwhile, seven other people are over the age of 16. Riza said 14 other people under the age of 16 are still in the process of being tested for hepatitis.

“Not all types of hepatitis AE examination are complete, so all cases are still in the status of ‘pending classification‘,” said Riza.

“Meanwhile, the other seven people are over 16 years old, so they do not enter the WHO criteria as an alert for severe acute hepatitis whose cause is unknown,” he continued.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government recorded 21 cases of suspected mysterious acute hepatitis. Currently, the 21 cases are in the process of epidemiological investigation.

“As stated yesterday, the provisional data is that there are 21 cases that are suspected to be related to acute hepatitis. However, this is still in the process of an epidemiological investigation,” said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria at the DKI Jakarta City Hall office, Wednesday (11/5).

Riza said the 21 people included three who died. He hoped that there would be no more victims of the hepatitis case.

He said the disease not only affects children, but also adults. Riza warned the public not to ignore the health protocols (prokes) to break the chain of transmission.

“Second, related to acute hepatitis, we ask especially children who are easily infected to postpone playing in public places, such as shared swimming pools. Children’s activities like playing in indoor places of all kinds, including such as we also convey for example using holding railings, people use it,” said Riza.

“Places or objects that are shared should be avoided, including eating at a shared dining area,” he continued.
