Dance of Death
After his international successes “Hallo” and “Eins Zwei Drei” the renowned Swiss choreographer and director Martin Zimmermann is now showing his latest creation at the festival. “Danse Macabre” is a humorous, deep-headed evening reminiscent of Samuel Beckett’s absurd theater: three tragic-comic figures beyond social norms grapple in the no man’s land of a dump of discarded things. Another bizarre figure hovers over the community of fate of the three outsiders: Death as a mischievous puller. Despite all the problems, the trio gets up again and again, finds surprising ways out and helps each other with typically Zimmermann’s humor, of which he himself says: “My humor is the ridiculous form of the sad.”
