Destiny 2: I played the trials

The Trials of Osiris are finally back in Destiny 2. Our author Philipp Hansen has made his way towards the lighthouse. He laughed, cried and swore on his PvP trip.

The trials and me: I enjoy spending time in Destiny 1 in the melting pot. A special PvP event was always the exams of Osiris, called trials by everyone. These merciless duels have their own dynamic.

Because here applies: A death and you are out. Your two teammates can enliven you, but the opposing team tries to prevent this under all circumstances. You feel the thrill before every fight, your heart is racing and after a duel you reward yourself with a good dose of happiness hormones.

Even though I’m pretty rusty now, I’m up for it the return of the trials. Yesterday evening, March 13th, the time had come.

Destiny 2: Trials of Osiris explained – everything you need to know about starting the exams

One evening in the Trials of Osiris

How to start the journey: You can’t go into the trials alone, it’s 3 vs. 3 announced. So quickly write to two friends: “Trials, all evening trials?” And luckily the keepers have time for me. But even if you have no friends on hand, thanks official support quickly find a team.

On short visit to Saint-14 is still on the program. The likeable Titan is now the “organizer” of the Trials of Osiris and covers us with forays and exam tickets.

Each ticket offers a different advantage and would like to be filled with seven victories. I can afford up to three losses, then a new ticket has to be found. I opt for the “Pass of Mercy” ticket because that is not how the first loss is counted. I’m very honest with myself: for the first rounds I need every second chance I can get.

Good things, but also well prepared?

This is how the first match goes: The first laugh is guaranteed before the start of the Saint-14 round. He ‘promises himself’ and roars throatily “Welcome to the trials of the 14th saint … er Osiris”. The licorice voice titan does his job as an announcer excellently and could overtake Lord Shaxx.

We are excited to see which PvP map the competitions will take place this weekend. The game is played on the “Burnout” card. Bungie made the only right choice:

  • Burnout is THE Trials map. My veteran’s heart is racing. Under the name “Burning Shrine”, this map was the very first on which the trials took place at that time.
  • Even without a nostalgia factor, the card is ideal for PvP mode. There are narrow passageways for shotgun sliders, long lines of sight for snipers, and the map changes its layout as the match progresses to keep players busy.

The classic burnout never gets boring

Contrary to expectations, we even win our first match. The first opponent gets a sniper shot in the helmet. Then we break out like a coordinated storm on the helpless guardians. It works exactly like in the textbook.

Nothing can stop us from feeling, is the lighthouse actually within reach? We are looking forward to the future and the second match.

Learning to lose also has to be learned: Have I given the impression that we have already arrived as good as the lighthouse? Not for a long time and unfortunately our hope gets a few sudden dampers.

In the course of the evening I have to learn a lesson and that means: to be able to plug in.

  • Sometimes I will be overrun with my measly power level of 980 by probably the strongest guardians on this side of the dreaming city.
  • Here and there you come across well-known streamer celebrities who quickly show you where the hammer is.
  • Some opponents feel their headshot from a pirouette jump with their eyes closed.

But we call each other the first lesson of the trials in the head and keep our good mood – okay, we’ll try. In between, we hastily blame the evil “Cheater” or “Lagger”. Fortunately, I can report here that the connection quality is very good all the way through the evening.

Am i having fun Yes! Time flies, either someone has set the clock or it is really already midnight. It always says: “Go, another ticket”. The new system is very accommodating. Simply restart the passage in the quest tab without having to go to the tower to save time. Time you can spend in the trials.

In the end, it’s not enough for the lighthouse. When I finally let go of Destiny 2, my ticket showed five hard-won victories. And there it is, the carrot in front of the nose, the driving force, the feeling of wanting more of it.

The victories simply count a lot more when the defeats almost crush you. You want to get up and fight back. If Bungie keeps the trials fresh and rewarding, I like to come back weekend after weekend. Try to get better and would like to decorate my Warlock with the Anubis helmet at some point.

One day the Osiris gear is mine

That was an extract from my experience. Have you already ventured into the Trials of Osiris? What have you experienced?

Fortunately, the new security works. Destiny 2 makes the servers more secure for trials – declare war on cheaters.
