A few hours earlier, an adviser to Zelensky’s chief of staff announced the “beginning of civil war” in Russia. “Events are unfolding according to the scenario we talked about all past year. The start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive finally destabilized the Russian elites, reinforcing the internal division that had arisen after the defeat in Ukraine. Today we are actually witnessing the beginning of a civil war.” says his comment.
Podoliak also writes that PMC Wagner continues “your march to Moscow”, as Ukraine continues to move “to its limits since 1991”.
On Saturday evening in Rostov-on-Don, the headquarters of the Southern Military District was captured by PMC “Wagner”. Groups of armed people moved around the city, checkpoints were set up at the entrances and exits.
This happened against the background of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s statements about alleged rocket-bomb attacks by the Russian armed forces on PMC “Wagner” camps.
The claim was denied by both the Ministry of Defense and the FSB. A criminal case was opened against Prigozhin for organizing an armed rebellion.
Later on Saturday, the press service of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that Prigozhin had accepted the Belarusian leader’s proposal to stop the movement of Wagner’s armed units on Russian territory and to take further de-escalation steps.
The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said that Prigozhin, against whom a criminal case has been opened in Russia, will go to Belarus and, accordingly, the criminal case will be terminated. The Kremlin, in turn, stated that the guarantee that Prigozhin would be able to go to Belarus was the word of the President of Russia.
