Despite the UEFA ban: how rainbow-colored will Munich be?

Police expect “more problematic” fans from Hungary

The background to the protest is a law passed in Hungary that restricts young people’s right to information about homosexuality and transsexuality. Actually, Munich wants to set an example for tolerance and equality against the policy of the Hungarian Prime Minister Orban.

The Munich police are expecting protests directed against the LGBTiQ * community. The officials paid special attention to around 200 supporters of the Hungarian national football team from “more problematic fan associations,” said police spokesman Andreas Franken.

A total of around 2,000 Hungarian fans can be assumed. Several police officers from Hungary who knew the scene supported the Bavarian officers in the operation. Franken made it clear that there would be consistent action against “racist and homophobic content” inside or outside the stadium.

1,500 additional officers from the Munich police in action

The police will again accompany the EM game with 1,500 additional forces. A presidium spokesman said this when asked by the BR. At the first meeting in the Munich arena on June 15 between the German and French teams, 500 additional officers were on duty. After the unsuccessful Greenpeace protest flight action, the police had increased their forces for the second game against Portugal by 1,000. The police also want to accompany the third game at the Munich venue with the same personnel expenditure. According to the police, there are no changed operational plans.

The anticipation of the public viewing in the beer garden at the last preliminary round game of the German team could cloud the weather forecast a bit: The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the coming night.

Appeal to the fans: comply with the corona rules

The disregard of distance rules and the mask requirement of numerous fans in previous games is still criticized. According to Bavaria’s Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU), the rules should not be tightened. At the public viewing, Holetschek said that celebrations and cozy get-togethers were again allowed under certain rules. Watching football in the beer garden is possible – but at a distance.

The ministry has also contacted the German Football Association (DFB) so that more fans comply with the mask requirement in the Munich arena for the next game of the national team. They appeal to fans to consistently wear a mask.
