The period is slow for New Jersey in the NHL. Still 3rd in the East, the Devils left the ice as the losers for the fifth time in six outings. A moderately reassuring sign as the play-offs approach. This time, it’s Buffalo’s fault, which was already leading 5-2 on Friday at the end of the second period, before managing its advantage (5-4, final score).
If Jonas Siegenthaler and Timo Meier remained discreet in the ranks of the devils, Nico Hischier found his 68th point of the exercise by serving Jack Hughes on the 5-4. On the other hand, Akira Schmid spent a real evening in hell. Established for his 17th appearance of the season, the Bernese goalkeeper saw his counterpart Vitek Vanecek replace him after just over 10 minutes. He had caught only four of the seven shots in his direction.
Columbus has a right to happiness
Columbus celebrated its 23rd success this season. The last of the class in the east, which is still nine lengths behind Montreal (15th), experienced this joy against the Islanders. It was not until extra time that Jenner Boone offered the victory to the Blue Jackets (5-4), in a meeting where his Zurich teammate Tim Berni skated for 16’09, for a plus-minus of +1.
Janis Moser, a 28th point in vain
It was Denis Malgin who won the Swiss duel of the evening. His Colorado, still well established in the lead car in the west (5th), overcame Arizona (3-1). Despite the successful assist by Janis Moser on the 1-1, which brings the Biel’s total to 28 points this season.
