Many suffer from the problem of cold extremities, especially in the winter, despite wearing socks and body warmth.
Some causes are temporary and harmless, but others may indicate more serious health conditions.
We explain this according to what was stated on the “health line” website
Coldness of the extremities is a phenomenon that mainly occurs as a result of poor blood flow to the hands and feet due to the low temperature and cold weather.
The reasons for the coldness of the parties?
Poor circulation
It is one of the most common causes of cold extremities, and poor circulation can make it difficult for enough warm blood to reach your feet regularly, leaving them cooler than the rest of your body.
It occurs as a result of prolonged sitting due to a sedentary lifestyle.
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes
Not only does diabetes cause cold extremities, but it also causes nerve damage, and other symptoms include numbness or tingling.
Hypothyroidism
This condition occurs when the gland is underactive and does not produce enough of its own hormone, and this interferes with the metabolism in the body, since it controls both the heartbeat and body temperature, and an underactive thyroid gland can contribute to reduced blood circulation and cold feet .
Other less common causes include:
1- Peripheral vascular disease.
2- narrowing of the arteries due to plaques.
3- Raynaud’s disease, which is a condition that leads to increased interaction and narrowing of the tiny blood vessels in the fingers and toes. Patients suffer from turning the fingers and toes into white and sometimes even blue with cold.
3-hardening of the arteries.
4-nerve damage.
Signs if you should see a doctor:
Sores on your toes and fingers that take a long time to heal.
fatigue.
weight changes
fever.
Joint pain.
Any changes in your skin, such as a rash or thickening of the skin.
According to the American Medical Center, the coldness of the extremities in the winter season may have psychological dimensions, as nervous pressure stimulates the brain to secrete hormones that narrow the blood vessels feeding the extremities.
Also, it may sometimes indicate a defect in the autonomic nervous system, which is the part responsible for expanding and narrowing blood vessels, according to physical needs.
Tips for getting rid of cold extremities:
Wear heavy stockings.
Put warm compresses on the feet.
Putting your feet in hot water to take away the cold.
Exercising to stimulate blood circulation.
Regular movement is like getting up constantly to warm the body.
