Despite the covid, the cartoon with demons has record sales in Japan

After more than two decades, the new film dethroned the most successful film, The Road to the Fantasy of the legendary Ghibli studio; paradoxically, the covidu-19 pandemic helped him with this, writes the Reuters agency.

The film, subtitled Mugen Resha (Mugen Train), was released in Japanese cinemas on October 16, has since garnered over 32 billion yen (6.6 billion crowns) and attracted 24 million viewers.

The Oscar-winning Journey to Fantasy in 2001 earned 31 billion yen (6.4 billion crowns). Haja Miyazaki’s film exceeded 30 billion yen in 253 days, and Kimecu no Jaiba conquered it in 59 days.

Experts from the film industry believe that the success of the new film was brought about by the coronavirus crisis, which disrupted the production and distribution of many films this year. But the Japanese kept measures against the spread of the virus at home, where they had time to read comics from this series and watch the animated series. When the cinemas reopened, they set out en masse to a film in which the themes of resilience, the struggle of good with evil or sibling love resonate.

The entire franchise, including films, comics, series or toys and other products, earned at least 270 billion yen (56 billion crowns) as of December 3. In addition to Japan, the film was screened in several other Asian countries, and in 2021 it will be seen by audiences in North America and Europe.
