Despite the closure of its mobile branch, here are which smartphones will benefit from Android updates

The telephony market is more competitive than ever. Now, the podium is dominated by Apple, Samsung and Huawei, while several Chinese firms are following with great rigor. Chinese firms responding to the name of OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, Honor… And in their wake, these successful companies have also buried established competitors! We obviously think of Blackberry, formerly the leader alongside the Cupertino company, but also LG. The Korean company has announced the closure of its mobile branch. Bad news for the manufacturer who was preparing a foldable smartphone.

Despite this bad news, good news is coming for owners of certain LG smartphones.

Several models will still be able to take advantage of Android 11, Android 12 and Android 13.

LG abandons hardware but gives software a break

If LG will no longer produce smartphones, burying projects like its foldable model, the owners of outstanding phones are not abandoned. The company will continue to update some of them and now unveils the list.

The LG Velvet 5G is currently moving to Android 11, followed by the LG G8X, LG Velvet 4G, LG G8S Wing, LG K52 and LG K42 during the year 2021.

Android 12 sera proposé chez les LG Wing, LG Velvet 5G, LG Velvet 4G, LG V50s, LG V50, LG G8, LG Q31, LG Q52 and LG Q92.

For Android 13, these will be the LG Wing, LG Velvet 5G and LG Velvet 4G.

Knowing that the lifespan of a smartphone is three years, this leaves time to change mobile before the end of the updates. Of course, nothing prevents you from opting for one of them after the last update. But your smartphone will be seriously exposed to a potential attack, no longer benefiting from security patches. It remains to be seen how long LG will continue to sell its smartphones before a complete disappearance from our shelves.

LG’s failure is little wonder. In addition to a saturated market, the Korean company was struggling to come up with novel and striking arguments. Samsung can rely on the quality of its photos, like Huawei, while Apple benefits from a brand image, especially thanks to iOS. As for OnePlus, the Chinese firm wants to be the good student with excellent smartphones while Xiaomi is betting on the quality / price ratio.
