Despite the cancellation of the Striezelmarkt: Dresden City Hall asks retailers to pay

The cancellation of the Striezelmarkt hit retailers hard. In order to relieve them, the stand fee was waived. They still got a bill.
Dresden – The renewed Cancellation of the Striezelmarkt has hit many retailers hard. To relieve them, the city Dresden waived the stand fee and thus waived more than one million euros. However, the stall operators have now received an invoice – an administration fee of 70 euros.
–
“Unfortunately, that’s not just the case in Dresden, but at all Christmas markets,” says annoyed Manuel Metzner (34), who also wanted to sell his sausage and cheese specialties at five other Saxon Christmas markets.
While he understands the connection fees for water and electricity of around 150 euros that also have to be paid (“The lines were laid and the commissioned third-party providers are affected as well as we are”), he misses the administrative fee.
“Compared to the stand fee, that’s a paltry amount for the city, but every euro hurts us dealers.” That could have been solved differently.

City councilor Matthias Rentzsch (44, AfD), to whom a dealer contacted him and vented his displeasure, sees it that way.
“It is a question of decency and piety to waive this fee. After all, the existence of the dealers is already threatened,” he says.
–
However, the town hall’s hands seem to be tied in this regard. “I can understand the anger and I’m not happy about it either, but I can’t change it,” says business developer Robert Franke (44).
Because the administrative act had taken place, the fee had to be settled, otherwise the administration would be liable to prosecution.
“Unlike with the stand fees, we have no discretion,” explains the head of the office.

However, the dealers could have the fee offset against the promised compensation.

“We campaigned for this at the Free State,” says Franke.
