Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw has expressed his desire to take the field again in 2025. Kershaw outlined his strategy during Fox’s pregame show ahead of the NLCS matchup between the Dodgers and New York Mets.

“I’m in a great mental state,” Kershaw said. “I had shoulder surgery last winter and my shoulder, elbow and arm are doing great overall. Unfortunately, I’ve had problems with my leg this year. But I want to use this surgery. I don’t want to have surgery and be out of the game. So I’ll come back next season and see how it goes.”

At 36, Kershaw has been able to make just seven starts and 30 innings this season due to injuries, a trend that has been evident in recent years. He is currently on the bench since August 30 due to a spike in his big toe and has been ruled out of the playoffs. Earlier this year, Kershaw missed the start of the 2024 season while recovering from shoulder surgery. Even though his stamina has declined in his thirties, he is still quite competent when healthy. For his career, Kershaw has compiled 212 wins, an ERA+ of 156, and a WAR of 76.5. The three-time Cy Young Award winner is almost guaranteed to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the future.

Kershaw is currently making $5 million this season and his contract includes a $5 million player option in 2025. Based on his statements, it seems that he is going to take advantage of it. Kershaw spent his entire professional career with the Dodgers, being drafted seventh overall in 2006.

If Clayton Kershaw can make a full recovery and return to the field in 2025, he will have a chance to bet on himself to win another MLB game. Whatever the outcome, Kershaw’s impressive baseball career, complete with numerous wins and Cy Young awards, is guaranteed to earn him a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
