LK Zug is having fun in the SPL1 so far this season – after two lean years. After the seventh matchday he already has nine points and is on course for the final round. Four wins and one draw versus two defeats. On Saturday, the Zug women lost the top game at Yellow Winterthur 31:34.

Zug’s coach Silvan Häfliger said afterwards: “We couldn’t play our game for 60 minutes. Winterthur took advantage of our weak phases and were able to pull away to within five goals in the final phase, which turned out to be too much of a burden.

However, Häfliger sees his players on the right path and draws a positive interim conclusion: “They are developing well. Every player, no matter how long they are deployed, makes their contribution and puts themselves at the service of the team. I feel a lot of will and willingness. The most recent performances make me look to the future with confidence.”

But Zug will have to improve even further in the next few games. Häfliger sees room for improvement both defensively and offensively: “We look at ourselves and focus on our strengths. We are aiming for the best defense in the league, that is an important guarantee of success.”

It’s not just the results that are important to Häfliger, but that his team also implements the points that were discussed. «We already lost, but the team fulfilled the tasks that I asked for. That was also a positive aspect for me. It’s always about the way you play.”

We will continue to work hard and remain humble. The final round is the first stage goal that the LKZ wants to achieve. The experienced Leah Stutz says of the season so far: “We have turned a lot of screws and refined a lot of things that perhaps didn’t work so well in the last two years. We are solid in defense, more variable and unpredictable in attack because we are well staffed in every position. Stutz also emphasizes the goalkeepers, whose good performances contribute a lot to the success. In addition, the mood in the team is very positive.

The championship is currently on pause because the national team will soon be playing a four-country tournament in Romania (with LKZ player Emma Büchter) with a view to the home European Championship in Basel. The LK Zug will therefore only continue on October 30th with the derby against the Spono Eagles, the leaders of the SPL1.
