The 20 clubs agreed on Monday at a coaching crisis meeting that the planned games would take place between the traditional Boxing Day (December 26th) and the beginning of 2022. The league announced this in a statement on Monday evening.
It was “the collective intention to continue the current game plan wherever that is safely possible.” To date, 92 percent of all professionals in the league and staff members have received one, two or even three vaccinations against the corona virus.
13 players and a goalkeeper
In the period between Christmas and New Year, the schedule is always particularly tight. Nine games are planned for Sunday alone. A vote by the coach on the possible postponement of certain games at the end of the year did not take place at the meeting, they had BBC and Daily Mail previously reported. The clubs want to compete when they have at least 13 fit players and a goalkeeper available. In two weeks, the corona situation and the effects on the clubs are to be assessed again.
The corona pandemic in Great Britain had brought the Premier League more and more distress. At the weekend, numerous games were canceled and postponed: Only four of the ten scheduled games of the 18th round took place. According to Monday, there was a record 90 corona cases (players and support staff) in the past week. These had been filtered out from 12,345 tests.
