Despite the difficult conditions caused by the corona pandemic, Hamburg’s high school graduates have achieved the best school leaving certificate in ten years. The 9,144 young women and men of the Abitur class 2021 achieved a grade point average of 2.27, as the school authorities announced on Friday.
In the past ten years, the grade average was between 2.36 and 2.46. The written exams for the secondary school leaving certificate were also better than in the previous year. “You can rightly be proud of yourself. These were not easy framework conditions”, congratulated the school senator Ties Rabe (SPD) the students.
Almost 98 percent pass the Abitur
According to the authorities, 9,144 of 9,351 students who took part in the school passed their Abitur this year. That corresponds to a rate of 97.8 percent. In the previous year it was 97.3 percent. The average Abitur grade at district schools is 2.43, at grammar schools 2.16 and at vocational grammar schools 2.45.
267 times the top grade 1.0
With the very good grades between 1.0 and 1.5, the proportion of young women is almost two thirds. Among the weaker Abitur grades between 3.0 and 3.8, the young men dominated with 57 percent. The top grade of 1.0 was awarded 267 times, compared to 193 times in the previous year.
Secondary school leaving certificate: No results yet
In the written exams for the secondary school leaving certificate, the former secondary school leaving certificate, the boys and girls were able to improve in the subjects math and English, in German they were slightly below the previous year’s result. The results of the first school leaving certificate, the earlier secondary school leaving certificate, are not yet available due to the special situation.
