The corona regulations are being reduced in most countries, which makes entry regulations easier. It’s high time, too, because Austrians long for travel. This is shown by a recent survey by Öamtc tourism, for which 1000 people, representative of the Austrian population, were asked about holiday destinations, budget and type of planned trips. The most important finding: 83 percent want to travel this summer.
Only 7 percent of those surveyed are certain that they will not be traveling at all this year. On the other hand, 2 thirds of those surveyed want to make more than one trip this summer. And where are the Austrians headed? As expected, to the sea, more than half would like waves, beach and sand (or stone): Italy and Croatia are the top destinations this year. According to Öamtc-Touristik, a quarter of travelers would like to spend their vacation at the lake, in the mountains or in a city.
More results on Austrians’ desire to travel:
- 56 percent want to go abroad, with young travelers between the ages of 16 and 29 being more attracted to other countries
- 46 percent want to spend their holidays in Austria, preferably in Styria and Carinthia, followed by Upper Austria and Tyrol.
- 7 out of 10 travelers want to go on holiday in their private car this year; families with children in particular use their private cars more often for their summer holidays (79 percent).
- 2 thirds of the Austrians surveyed stated that they plan a similar budget as usual. The average holiday budget for the summer of 2022 is therefore around 1000 euros per capita.
- On average, travelers over 60 have a significantly higher budget (plus 242 euros).
- Around half of the people who have no holiday plans or are still undecided give financial reasons. One in three cites Corona as a reason not to travel.
