Despite annoyance, more than one in four French people would find it difficult to do without WhatsApp

Whether it’s to chat with your friends, your family and even your colleagues, WhatsApp has established itself as one of the most used platforms among the French to communicate. Questioned by Ifop* for Lemon.fr, 72% of French people admit to having already used the application of the Meta group and more than one in two French people (57%) affirms to have been active “during the three months preceding the investigation.

Among the most active, generation of 25-34 year olds is the most addicted to WhatsAppwith 71% of users, against 44% for the over 65s.

Executives use the application more (77%) than blue-collar workers (52%). On the other hand, no significant difference is observed for women and men who are respectively 58% and 56% to be active on WhatsApp during the last three months.

On average, the French are members of 4.6 groups. According to the study, more than four in ten users (41%) have between two and four bands. A percentage that rises to 56% for 18-24 year olds, while a third of French people have more than five groups.

Business leaders can be present in more than ten groups on the application, at 26%. WhatsApp groups of a professional nature are also the second most cited genre by users (54%). In the lead, and unsurprisingly, we find equal groups of family and friends for 74% of the French people questioned. Those over 65, mostly retired, are 87% to belong to family groups. 73% of 18-24 year olds take part in groups of a professional nature.

Despite high satisfaction with their presence in family (96%), friendly (97%) and even professional (87%) groups, French users still report negative aspects. 51% have already felt obliged to respond in a group and 58% of them said they were bothered by the number of messages received. Note that 39% of respondents do not like voice messages.

To respond to these inconveniences, 63% of French people have already decided to mute notifications and 33% have even chosen to create another group to talk to people present in another conversation.

Exchanges that can poison relationships between people. The French are 38% to say they no longer support certain people in their group and 45% have already been irritated by personal exchanges within a group conversation, or even to find the creation of the group useless. Atmosphere.

Despite everything, more than one in four French people would find it difficult to do without WhatsApp, says the study. And in particular women who are 33%, against 22% of men, to affirm their dependence on the application. The youngest are also more addicted to messaging since 31% of 18-34 year olds, compared to 22% of those over 65, feel this need.

And yet, the use of WhatsApp remains for the majority quite optional. More than seven out of ten users claim to be able to do without the Meta group platform. For the benefit of physical interactions?
