Unfortunately the situation is not very pleasant. The board of directors of the partnership association La Trinidad – Moers e. V. has now dealt with current news from Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan government’s Foreign Agents Regulation Act indirectly restricts or prohibits civil society organizations, including partnership associations.
The transfer of funds for sponsorships and for a therapy project will no longer be possible in the future. Only at the beginning of the Nicaraguan school year was it possible to assist all the children in the adoption project. “Meanwhile, the partner harassment in La Trinidad has reached its peak,” says Sabine Werler from the association’s management at the city of Moers. “It appears that the FUNMOLAT association in La Trinidad has been dissolved by the state,” she continues. The government has banned more than 2,700 clubs so far.
“Lili’s School” support
Despite the more than difficult situation, the contacts between Moers in the Bas-Rhin and La Trinidad in Nicaragua should not end. “We will not give up the association,” clarifies the mayor and president of the Moers association, Christoph Fleischhauer. A small glimmer of hope is a possible path through the German Embassy in Managua. Honorary President Rafael Hofmann had sent a request to the Federal Foreign Office via Bundestag member Kerstin Radomski. The Board of Directors has also decided to support the Nicaragua information office in Wuppertal and the “Lilis School” project in the Dominican Republic with donations. “Especially at the Lilis School, we see our main focus as education in ‘One World’ and education against poverty, and have therefore decided on this unique support,” informs Christoph Fleischhauer.
