So that the projects to which the money should benefit can be planned with a safe amount, they want The tax authorities say that the city should compensate for the difference.

Money for culture and sports
Since 2013, all guests who spend the night in Hamburg hotels and pensions have to pay the bed tax. Projects from the fields of culture, sport and tourism are supported. One focus with a good three million euros is the festival landscape. These include well-known festivals such as the Film Festival and Harbourfront Festival, but also smaller events such as the Earth Building Festival and India Week.
In the sports area, the gallop derby, the Helga-Cup sailing regatta, triathlon and marathon are financially supported. And in the tourism sector, the focus of funding is on digital projects such as the online magazine “hamburg ahoi”, the app “Hamburg Experience & Sparen” or the travel blogger project “Come to Hamburg”.
Hamburg earned 16 million euros last year with the culture and tourism tax. More than 136 cultural projects and many sporting events benefited from this (15.09.2020). more
