Despite a draw against Palmeiras, Botafogo advances to the quarter-finals thanks to a late goal

Exciting 2-2 draw between Palmeiras and Botafogo, for key 6 of the CONMEBOL tournament – Copa Libertadores 2024.

Botafogo took the lead when Igor Jesus fired home to make it 1-0 in the 10th minute of the second half. 18 minutes into the second half, Jefferson Savarino added to the lead with a shot. Palmeiras went in search of a goal and got their reward. José Manuel López took advantage of a header to beat the opposing goalkeeper and get within one in the 40th minute of the second half. Rony then went for more and managed to level things up after a great play in the 44th minute of the same half.

Palmeiras midfielder Gabriel Menino and Botafogo midfielder Jefferson Savarino were left wanting to score when their shots ended up hitting the post.

The draw came after a match in which Palmeiras was far superior in terms of shots, leaving a statistic of 14 balls that ended up in the goal, 1 that hit the post and 7 that ended up outside.

Facundo Tello Figueroa was appointed as the main referee for the match at the Allianz Parque stadium.

Botafogo sealed their qualification to the quarter-finals with a draw in the return match, after winning the first match of the series against Palmeiras.
