FC Bayern Munich was at least one size too big for Bremer SV in the first round of the DFB Cup. Against the record winner, the fifth division from the Bremen League had to admit defeat 0:12 (0: 5) in front of 10,029 spectators in the large Weser stadium of the Bundesliga relegated SV Werder Bremen.
The outstanding four-time goalscorer Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (8th / 28th / 35th / 82nd) and young international Jamal Musiala (16th / 49th), an own goal by Jan-Luca Warm (27th), who came on as a substitute U20 national players Malik Tillman (47th), Leroy Sané (66th), Michael Cuisance (80th), Bouna Sarr (86th) and Corentin Tolisso (88th) ensured the Bundesliga club’s progress was never endangered.
BSV goalkeeper Malte Seemann: “It was fun”
Despite the flood of goals conceded, BSV goalkeeper Malte Seemann said after the final whistle: “It was incredibly fun. The fans were great, the Bayern players were all very nice.” At the score of 0: 8, Seemann made room for his goalkeeper colleague Ole Bahr, who then had to accept four hits in the final phase.
It is the greatest experience of any amateur footballer to play against FC Bayern Munich “
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann praised the underdog: “In the first few minutes the opponent was very brave and got some deals. But our team solved the task very well and continued to take the clear lead.”
Tenth DFB Cup participation in the club’s history
For the BSV, who played cheekily in the initial phase, it was the tenth DFB Cup participation in the club’s history. For the first time since the 2016/2017 season, the Bremen team was represented in the competition again. “It is the greatest experience of any amateur footballer to play against FC Bayern Munich. We will not see a game in front of 10,000 spectators in the Weserstadion anytime soon,” said Sebastian Kmiec, defender and playing assistant coach of Bremer SV FUSSBALL.DE : “Unfortunately, the result turned out to be much clearer than we had wished for. Nevertheless, it was an unforgettable evening for all of us.”
The competitive season for Bremer SV had already started last weekend with the first matchday in the Bremen League. Compared to the 3: 1 (0: 1) against Blumenthaler SV, coach Benjamin Eta made two changes for the biggest game in the club’s history: Ikrami Olatunji and Oscar Garcia moved into the team for Atsushi Waki and Fabio Orlick (both on the bench).

The Munich stars Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka and the ailing national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer did not make the trip to Bremen. The game came too early for Kingsley Coman (gluteal muscle bleeding) and Lukas Hernandez (meniscus tear). In addition, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies and Serge Gnabry moved on to the bench compared to the 3: 2 (0: 0) against 1. FC Köln. For this, Sven Ulreich, Omar Richards, Bouna Sarr, Corentin Tolisso, Jamal Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting started.
Lamine Diop fails to Bayern goalkeeper Ulreich
In heavy rain, FC Bayern Munich was the first to end the game. The attempt by Corentin Tolisso (4th) was able to fend off goalkeeper Malte Seemann. Bremer SV was also looking for the way forward despite its clear outsider role. Lamine Diop (6th) did not pose any major problems for FCB goalkeeper Sven Ulreich. A short time later, the lead for the favorite. National player Leroy Sané was able to put down a long ball for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who placed the ball under the crossbar while turning (8th).
German national players also had their feet in the game in Bayern Munich’s second goal. Niklas Süle served Jamal Musiala, who scored after a one-two with Choupo-Moting (16.). Musiala and Choupo-Moting were also involved in creating the third hit. Ultimately, BSV defender Jan-Luca Warm (27th) shot himself in an attempt to clarify, the ball rolled over the line as an own goal. With his goals two and three, Choupo-Moting (28./35.) Established the half-time result.
Four goals, three assists: Choupo-Moting “Man of the match”
The second round was only a few minutes old when Malik Tillman (47th) and Musiala (49th), who were substituted on at break, further increased the result. After a few changes of hosts, the eighth goal of the evening went to Leroy Sané (65th). In the 70th minute, BSV coach Benjamin Eta also gave his “number two” a special evening. Ole Bahr was substituted on for goalkeeper Malte Seemann.
It didn’t take long before Bahr was also defeated for the first time. Substitute Michael Cuisance (80th) scored after Ugo Nobile (77th) saw the red card because of an emergency brake. Again Choupo-Moting (82nd), Bouna Sarr (86th) and Corentin Tolisso (88th) made the final score. In addition to a total of four goals scored by himself, Choupo-Moting also prepared three more goals for his team-mates. Unsurprisingly, he was therefore voted “Man of the match”.
Despite the clear result, the Bremer SV team was said goodbye to the 10,029 spectators with applause and standing ovations. In the league, the team of BSV coach Benjamin Eta will not continue with the game at Leher TS until Thursday, September 2, from 6.15 p.m. FC Bayern Munich will host Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga on Saturday (from 6.30 p.m.). The draw for the second main round in the DFB-Pokal will take place on Sunday (from 6.30 p.m., live on the ARD-Sportschau). The meetings of the second main round will take place on October 26th and 27th.
