The apparent escalation came after Moscow warned Finland against joining NATO. The warning came after the so far neutral country said it was considering joining the US-led military bloc.
Given that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine was largely tied to Kiev’s ambitions to join NATO, Moscow’s move to bring its weapons closer to its border with Finland could be a significant step.

Finland is preparing a potentially historic decision before midsummer on whether to sign up to join NATO as a deterrent against Russian aggression.
The Nordic nation of 5.5 million has traditionally been militarily non-aligned, in part to avoid provoking its eastern neighbour, which shares a 1,300-kilometer (830-mile) border.
But Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24 saw Finland’s public support for joining NATO double from 30 to 60 percent, according to a series of polls.
“Never underestimate Finland’s capacity to make quick decisions when the world changes,” former Finnish prime minister Alexander Stubb told AFPwhich was launched on Wednesday (13/4/2022).
