Desmond Tutu died Sunday morning at the age of 90 in Cape Town. The former Archbishop of Cape Town, hero of the anti-apartheid struggle and Nobel Peace Prize winner, embodied the “conscience” of South Africa.

JI would like my epitaph to say: “He loved, he laughed and he cried” ”. The former Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town was a man of great faith, of great struggle and… of a great sense of humor. He was as popular in his country as Nelson Mandela.
These two charismatic men embodied the fight against apartheid and for racial reconciliation. “He was a man of extraordinary intelligence and integrity in the face of apartheid forces,” said South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. He was as tender in his compassion for those who had suffered oppression, injustice and violence under apartheid as he was for the oppressed and oppressors around the world ”.
