Desmond Francis died at age 36 after being shot “by mistake” by his friend outside a smoke shop in Brooklyn (NYC) mid-morning.
The unidentified suspect allegedly shot Francis in the chest outside the store located near Ralph and Sutter avenues in Brownsville around 10:20 a.m. Monday, the NYPD said.

The gunman was outside the store holding two plastic bags when Francis playfully grabbed them, but the suspect thought he was being robbed and didn’t recognize his friend’s face before shooting him, authorities said. An employee at a nearby Papa Johns pizzeria said I had heard two shots.
“I didn’t know it was you, I’m very, very sorry,” the suspect allegedly told Francis in a 911 call what he did after the shooting, he said Pix11. He then stayed with the victim to comfort her for a few minutes before leaving with her plastic bags, detectives said.

Francis lived a few blocks away with his mother and left behind a 4-year-old orphaned girl. He also dreamed of starting his own transportation company and had recently purchased two trucks, he told Daily News his aunt Vivian Philips.
