Also this year the 20th edition of the Desjardins – Jeunes au travail project, which aims to be a gateway to the labor market, has been a huge success.
In a context of labor shortages, many registrations have been made by employers. A total of 26 companies joined the project presenting 34 different positions. A selection of 14 positions offering diversified and training tasks was carried out by the participants Caisses Desjardins in collaboration with the project managers of the Carrefour jeunesse-emploi MRC de Maskinongé.
Despite the shortage of manpower and the large number of young people already employed on an annual basis, the project managers have committed and used strategies to recruit 25 young people between the ages of 14 and 18. Among these registrations received, 19 job interviews were conducted. After a preparatory meeting, interviews were conducted in a structured environment with CJE’s project managers and employers.
Following the interviews, 14 young people were selected within the Desjardins project – Young people at work. The project thus makes it possible to sensitize employers on the potential of the new generations as well as offering our young people an experience favorable to their personal development.
The Desjardins – Jeunes au travail experience has allowed adolescents to develop a sense of responsibility and a certain financial autonomy. Challenging work environments also gave them the opportunity to work on their social skills, whether it was customer service or relationships with colleagues. In this way the young people were able to improve their professional skills and acquire a certain maturity for their future work.
Under this project, the participants had to work at least 30 hours a week for six weeks during the summer season. Participants Caisses Desjardins granted employers a wage subsidy equivalent to 50% of the minimum wage. (TO THE)
