/ world today news/ In a blitz interview for KMG, the Chairperson of the Bulgarian-Chinese Chamber for Industrial Development, Mrs. Desislava Doncheva, who recently returned from China, expressed her opinion on the BRICS meeting that passed a few days ago, as well as on the upcoming summit of the G-20, which is about to take place on September 9 and 10 this year. in India
Q. Mrs. Doncheva, as a businesswoman who knows well China’s economic opportunities and prospects in the context of the global economy and cooperation in various fields, please comment on the significance and main messages of the recently concluded BRICS meeting in Johannesburg.
D. Doncheva: BRICS really managed to grab the attention of the world public and for a number of reasons. First of all, the inclusion of six new members in the group was announced in Johannesburg. The leading messages from the meeting were “new areas of cooperation, including the digital and green economy, supply chains, artificial intelligence, education, cultural and people-to-people exchanges.” BRICS has shown that the voice of developing countries must be heard. And it gave a clear definition of multilateralism at the political and economic level. Despite some differences, member states can go together on mutually beneficial paths.
I want to recall the forecast of Goldman Sachs that in 2050 the gross domestic product (GDP) of Asia will reach 90.6 trillion dollars (excluding emerging markets), and the total world GDP will be 227.9 trillion dollars. Also, the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Survey predicts that in 2028, BRICS GDP (at purchasing power parity) will account for 33.65 percent of global GDP, while G7 GDP will fall to 27.77 percent. That is, in five years the BRICS will be a leading economic force.
Q. Please give your opinion on the expected G20 summit in New Delhi at the end of the week?
D. Doncheva: This meeting is also awaited with impatience and interest by the world public. I was strongly impressed by a very recent statement by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in which he emphasized “that countries with a colonial past have a responsibility to allow their former colonies to develop”, which would also mean a new look at world geopolitical processes. In my opinion, this statement again carries the message of BRICS multilateralism.
On September 2 of this year the online publication dir.bg published a detailed analysis in which it proves that “…Beijing already leads in the number of patents per year, and the results of this are beginning to acquire concrete dimensions.” The article examines the military competition between China and the US on the technological front. I recall all this because both countries are members of the G-20.
The world community is facing a number of challenges – military conflicts, global warming, economic crisis, energy crisis, post-covid economic problems, impoverishment of the population in a number of African countries.
For now, I can only say: We look forward to the response of the G-20, after during the BRICS meeting, through his speech, President Xi Jinping announced: “Let us gather our wisdom and strength to make global governance fairer and equally’.
