Designer Center Pompidou and Millennium Dome passed away

Architect Richard Rogers (88) has died in Great Britain. He was considered one of the most successful and influential architects, writes the BBC.

In the 1970s and 1980s, he became widely known for the design of two buildings that were controversial at the time because facilities such as elevators, stairs, ducts and air conditioning ducts were placed on the outside: the Center Pompidou in Paris and the Lloyds building in London.

The Center Pompidou modern art museum, which he co-designed with architect Renzo Piano, opened in 1977 and has become one of the main attractions in Paris. The building stood out because of the colorful pipes and tubes on the facade.

Millennium Dome

Rogers’ other creations have included the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, the Parliament of Wales in Cardiff, and terminals at London’s Heathrow and Barajas airports in Madrid.

On the occasion of the celebration of the new millennium, he designed the Millennium Dome in London, today the O2 Arena. With a diameter of 365 meters, it is the largest dome building in the world. In New York, he built the Three World Trade Center, an 80-storey skyscraper on the site of the former Twin Towers.

In 2007 Rogers was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the highest international award for architects. In 1991 he was knighted by the British Queen.
