Designer bags more expensive, long lines at Chanel stores in Asia

Seoul City Council plans to temporarily close stores of luxury brand Chanel. Last week, Chanel’s stores and competing Louis Vuitton in the South Korean capital attracted so many customers that long lines formed in several places. The city council is angry about this, because it fears the risk of infection.

It was also very busy in China at branches of the two designer brands. There were rows at stores in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Beijing.

Hundreds of euros more expensive

It is no coincidence that customers came just last week for a designer bag or other luxury product. Online speculation about price increases among the French brands had been going on for a few days. Earlier this week, Chanel confirmed that the prices of popular products will rise: first in Asia, then elsewhere in the world. It concerns price increases between 5 and 17 percent.

Sales prices also rose at Louis Vuitton. In March, the increase was 3 percent, and in April it was another 5 percent. That means that some articles are suddenly a few hundred euros more expensive.
