The fair will continue this year, but not in the form they are used to in Weert. Instead of the usual ribbon of attractions throughout the downtown area, this year it will be limited to three fairgrounds outside the immediate entertainment area.
The Weerter CDA faction is happy with the passage of the fair, but points out the risks of large groups of people in the city who have to wait until they are admitted to one of the three fairgrounds. In this regard, when discussing the proposal for the fair in the council meeting on 8 September, they also mentioned the mandatory closing time for the catering industry at 24.00, while the fair is open until 00.30.
Catering entrepreneurs who spoke to CDA Weert also see these risks on the basis of their experiences. They argue that due to the restrictive corona measures, the catering industry has too few options to accommodate people who stay in the city center. This entails the risk of incidents.
The CDA faction proposes to designate the city center as an event site. Then taps can be placed outside and more tables and chairs can be placed outside. The opening time can also be extended to 1 am.
The CDA faction indicates that it understands that these measures do not fit in with the rules of the central government and the Limburg North Safety Region. Nevertheless, she believes that a trade-off must be made in order to minimize the risk of contamination and the risk to public order and safety of the fair in the chosen form.
