Neymar has turned down reports of 500 guests at New Years Eve party.
The Brazilian soccer star Neymar has rejected reports of a New Year’s Eve party with 500 guests. He celebrates with family and friends, everyone has been tested for the corona virus and there is a distance, said the 28-year-old in a video on Instagram. No 500 guests were invited, as was reported before New Year’s Eve.

In a video just before the turn of the year, Neymar showed a long table where only every second place is covered. “We deserve to celebrate our lives,” wrote the Paris Saint-Germain professional.

Brazilian media had previously reported a Neymar party with professional entertainment in a villa on a beach in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, which began several days before New Year’s Eve. The reports caused outrage – the well-known Brazilian football journalist Play Kfouri accused Neymar of mocking the families of the more than 190,000 corona fatalities in the South American country. A spokeswoman for Neymar denied the reports: “Neymar will not have a party this year, we have a full-blown pandemic and he is spending time with his friends and family,” said Day Crespo.

Brazil has the third most coronavirus infections and the second most deaths related to Covid-19 worldwide. Because of the Corona crisis, the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations on Copacabana Beach in Rio were canceled this year. The right president Jair Bolsonaro has repeatedly downplayed the seriousness of the pandemic. Neymar is one of his most prominent supporters.
