Past its ambient energy, which is normally a good part of its charm, New York City is, in itself, not a fundamentally pleasant city to live in: heightened population density, ambient dirt, lack of light and incessant noise from all kinds (the sirens of fire trucks and other ambulances can certainly charm the passing visitor, but less the long-time resident).

In normal times, these shortcomings are largely offset by a whole series of elements that contribute to making the city one of the world’s leading tourist destinations: leading cultural life, culinary diversity or, more broadly, constant activity. But, in these times of pandemic, these assets are quite simply annihilated, leaving the city, a sort of amorphous giant, in a very poor posture.
