Descent of St. Moritz, Curtoni triumph in front of the Goggia

The female descent is always blue. Under the snowfall of St. Moritz, with a shortened race – starting at the height of the super-G – this time Elena Curtoni is the winner. Descent with bib number 2 and uncatchable in the central section, Curtoni collects the third success of her career in 1’09″40 after the Bansko descent in January 2020 and the super-G in Cortina last January. And on the Corviglia it’s a double for the Azzurri: after the two victories at Lake Louise Sofia Goggia finishes in second place on a certainly not so lucky day. Before her, a five-minute stop at the starting gate because the race was stopped due to the fall of a smoother, then the impact at full speed with a pole that left her left hand aching. At the finish line she said to technicians and companions: “I broke my hand”. La Goggia is at the St. Moritz clinic to undergo an MRI. On the podium goes Corinne Suter, third at 73/100 ahead of the other Swiss Flury.

“I have a good feeling with this track – comments Elena Curtoni on the finish line – I’m happy to have put on the malice that I wasn’t able to show in training”. Over time the snowfall became increasingly thick and visibility also worsened, the conditions did not stop Federica Brignone’s class, seventh at 1″27 from Curtoni and behind Mikaela Shiffrin (sixth at 1″23 ).
