Arne Slot regularly receives compliments from Johan Derksen: the trainer’s behavior in front of the camera and on the sidelines can count on De Snor’s approval, as is the restrained joy after the late 1-0 win against Slot’s former employer AZ. Derksen, however, continues to insist that Dessers, as a mercenary, is a bad buy. Even after the Belgian has decided three games for Feyenoord in seven days, his opinion does not change.
“It remains a bad buy, because a minute before with his left leg … he can do nothing with it,” says Derksen at Veronica Inside. He was immediately corrected by Wilfred Genee, who indicated that a lighter was in the way. ‘That’s all right! You just have to tap into such a ball: with or without a lighter! The nice thing is that such a boy shoots him a little later and he then leaves the field as a hero. I heartily give it to him, because he is a very nice kid.”
Feyenoord currently has the fewest loss points in the Eredivisie. Derksen is asked whether the Rotterdammers can become champions. Impossible, because they have a very small selection. If they have to deal with yellow cards and a few injuries, you have to put in youth players who are not ready for it yet. They are also doing really well. The trainer really put in something that works. He wanted to play with Feyenoord just as he did with AZ. I thought: you can’t do that. Now he’s got some good players who can do that.”
Kieft enjoys watching Feyenoord
Table guest Wim Kieft agrees with Derksen that the Rotterdammers are not a candidate for the title. The former football player does enjoy the game and praises the performance against AZ after a difficult away game against Union Berlin. “Thursday was a really tough game, so it was really good. That field was not normally bad. The strength of Feyenoord is simply in the way of playing. We all really like that. It’s been a really long time since you could catch Feyenoord playing and certainly attacking. It’s really fun to watch.”
